Sorry it has been so long since I have written anything, but I have been cranky.
I tripped over my bike pedal exercise equipment and might have broken my third toe on my left foot. The X-rays came out a little burry and whoever read the pictures couldn’t tell for sure. So, the doctor in the ER told me to make an appointment with orthopaedics and they would put my leg in a splint in the meantime.
The technicians did a fabulous job wrapping up my leg; unfortunately, wrappings don’t last long on my legs and about 12 hours later all the wrappings had fallen off, so I took the splint off. I did everything I would normally do, even using my bike pedal exercise equipment, but carefully.
I noticed my foot had many bruises on it, so I made the sage decision to go back to the ER. It turns out I had fractured the second through fifth head and neck metatarsals, plus the third proximal phalangeal base fracture.

They put my leg back in a splint and this one stayed up for the most part until my appointment with orthopaedics.
When I got to ortho, the verdict was obvious–a cast. The doctor tried to drill into me not to move around and told me to pick a cool color. He also warned me that I would probably need a cast replacement in three days. My cast was falling off after two days; fortunately, I’m getting it taken care of today.
Once the cast was on, I noticed I was becoming cranky. Not mad. Not a curmudgeon. Not self-pity. Just cranky.

You can’t move when you’re in a cast. Your pant leg has to be up. Trying to create a water tight seal to shower is interesting.
I’m going to be cranky for a long time,
Miriam Kavanagh
