About

Big Words

I was examining my writing the other day and realized it was as simple as a Dick and Jane book, it wasn’t even as intellectually verbose as Harry Potter; although, to be fair Harry Potter does have some incredibly invented or outdated words.

I want to be able to write a book where I can write a sentence like, “The octogenarian polymath continued to write empirical works, treating himself with a comestible delight whenever her papers’ were published.”

Okay, that might be a bit much, but I want to write something that I’m able to drop words like bachanallian, quixotic, mettlesome as if it was an average word for the piece. I have found that writing something in a simple manner, then dropping in a ten cent word looks odd.

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing when I write something in a simple manner, but I don’t read very well, so it makes sense that I can’t write in a highfalutin’ way. Perhaps that is a way of reaching out to others who can’t read well or perhaps that’s an excuse so I don’t have to work through finishing a book and worry about the world of words.

*Sigh*
