Speech Can Trip You Up

by Miriam Kavanagh

I recently hurt someone I love very much. I had great conversations with him and then I put my foot in it.

These were his reactions…

Both understandable reactions, both totally surprising reactions coming from such a peaceful person.

At first I thought it was a joke and I tried calling him back, but he sent me to voicemail. I didn’t know what to do, I still don’t know what to do.

I tried calling him, WhatsApping him, and eventually texted him. No response has come and I don’t expect one to. Perhaps I have heard the last from this person who I love so much.

I learned a lot from my interaction with this person, mainly think before you speak, or to put it a more fun way…

Even if you don’t mean any harm by your words, think before you speak every noun, verb, pronoun, adverb, conjuction, etc.

I got lucky and very blessed, the person who I offended got back in touch with me.

He told me a bunch of positive things in his life and my eyes popped open I was so amazed. He has accomplished more in his short life than I have in my much longer life, and, quite frankly, I began to get a little jealous.

He even apologize for hanging up on me, something I would have done too if the situation was reversed. Many people are not as lucky as I am. It takes a person of strong character to apologize and within just a few hours. I probably would have let it stew for a few days before I apologized.

This just goes to show you how lucky I am to have this person in my life. However, not everyone is as lucky as I am.

THNK BEFOR YOU SPEAK!
