Getting my master’s degree in theology had always skipped around my mind, but I worried about the money. Suddenly, God told me to go, and I was not so worried about the money anymore. However, when I was looking for online schools, I did want one that was inexpensive and that is what first drew me to Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Connecticut. Then, when I went to the website, before I explored anything, something in me told me this was the right school for me. Exploring the website was a dream, everything was amazing! Choosing Holy Apostles College and Seminary was easy for me to do.
I want to get my master’s degree in theology to become a better novelist. All of my writings tend to take a spiritual slant, and I have always tried to shy away from that because I wanted my writing to be accessible to people of all faiths. Perhaps God wants me to be a spiritual novelist and now is the time for me to really study different parts of theology and get a hold on it for my own writing. Even more important, maybe he wants me to get a hold on it for myself and to learn more about my religion.
I was pleased, nervous, and worried when I saw that evangelization is an important part of Holy Apostles College and Seminary. Evangelization has always confused me greatly because it makes me think of Bible thumpers and people insisting other religions must be wrong. Jesus did not do this. He interacted with people of other differing faiths and when they came to him for healing, he did not turn them away. Jesus spoke his powerful truth instead: I am the way and the truth and the life. (John 14:6)
Then, Vatican II solidified how I feel we should truly treat other religions: The Catholic Church looks with sincere respect upon those particular ways of conduct and of life, those rules and teachings which, though differing in many ways from what She holds and sets forth, nevertheless often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men. (Nostra Aetate, 2)[i]
Holy Apostles College and Seminary can help me understand the concept of evangelization as the Catholic Church teaches it, and I will be able to incorporate it into my writing.
As a personal interest student, I have looked at the academic catalog frequently to see what the future might hold, and I want to devour all the classes. I am currently taking philosophy; the professor is kind, patient, and understanding (just like everyone else I have encountered at the school). The class is fascinating but quite difficult. One of the things I have enjoyed the most about philosophy is how useful it will be in my writing.
No one knows what the future holds, but I know that whatever my studies in theology hold, they are at Holy Apostles College and Seminary.
