In Kentucky, we were recently allowed to apply to vote absentee. I applied and within a few days my ballot came in the mail. I was thrilled, but I hit my head badly a few days earlier, and my noggin wasn’t quite clear yet. I wanted to make sure my head was clear in case there were ammendments to vote on.
I plan on mailing it tomorrow (Monday, 9/27/2024) that way my voice can be counted.
I was surprised that you had to supply the stamp for the absentee ballot. How many people will return their ballots simply because they don’t have a stamp? Admittedly, there are places where you can drop it off, but if you’re like me and don’t drive you need to do it by mail. A friend of mine suggested it was a way to suppress votes, and I’m not so sure he’s wrong. Fortunately, we have an exciting presidential race that will inspire people to get a stamp no matter what.
Above is the presidential form of my personal ballot.
However, I was disturbed by one of the ammendments on the Kentucky ballot. It was about non-citizens being able to vote, but it also listed other people who they wanted to add to that list. It wrote about “Idiots and insane persons.”
Today, an idiot is a stupid person or someone with low intelligence. A long while ago, in medicine, idiot used to refer to people with intellectual disbilities. It has been viewed as offensive in the medical community for over thirty years.
There are plenty of current day idiots who should not vote, many of them have somehow gotten elected themselves. Unfortunately, I have this crazy belief that EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO VOTE!
We won’t even step into the world of insane because no likes to read a rant.
Whoever you vote for, make sure you have rsearched from a reputable website like Vote Smart; I have included the links for both candidates below.
Donald J. Trump: https://justfacts.votesmart.org/candidate/political-courage-test/15723/donald-trump
Kamala D. Harris: https://justfacts.votesmart.org/candidate/120012/kamala-harris
One of the most important things is respecting each other’s vote and not getting into fights or shouting matches, especially on social media.
