I went from memoir idea to memoir idea to memoir idea based on my time when I was a missionary during my convent years in Juarez. I wanted to pull back on the religiousity of it to gain a wider audience. When I reread the blog, I liked it as it was and decided to say, “Screw it, I’m just going to take out the typoes (terrible joke, sorry) and publish the blog.” So, that is what I did. I altered some stuff because I looked at it and thought, “What does this mean? Well, fourteen years later, it will mean this and hope it’s right.”
However, I started putting the book together on a Thursday and went hard at it until Saturday when it was ready to be published on Amazon. It either got published early on St. Patrick’s Day (Sunday) or late on Saturday. Unfortunately, my office chair sucks, so I was pretty much hunched over my desk. I spent Monday asleep. When I was awake on Tuesday, I was in so much pain, a heating pad nor Tylenol helped my right shoulder. I had to go to the emergency department at 4:15 a.m. They gave me two strong pain meds and they barely made a dent.
The funny thing is that I had an echocardiogram in the same building at 9:00 a.m., and I wasn’t going to pay for an Uber to go home just to have pay for an Uber to go back. I was being fiscally smart. However, as I fell asleep in as many different chairs as I sat in, people came up to me and said, “Ma’am are you okay?” Never fall asleep in a hospital, they’ll think you’re sick. A kind thought, but annoying to be woken up from a nap.
My blog-book, When in Juarez, is a quick read available on Amazon. The book is $6.00 and the Kindle is $2.99 (lowest price I could go, sorry). I think the link is https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CYBB8DLB, but I can’t be sure.
I have a priest reviewing it now to get a quote from him on how fabulous it is. And I wondered if ChatGPT could give me a review. I am against AI, because it seems to be taking away from creativity. But I couldn’t resist this one time. A computer liked it but thought the Prologue was a bit informal. I gave people warning warning at the beginning of the Prologue that I had no idea how it was supposed to be written.
Give it a whirl and see what you think. I know people usually skip the Prologue, but this one has the funniest moment and the saddest moment, neither of which made it into the blog. I can see why I would want to hide both. The funniest one is really quite embarrasing and the sad one is heartbreaking.
My reading skills suck, but this is something I can chill out and read in one sitting.
