This week marks the saddest day in any warfare that has ever occured–the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
There really isn’t much to say.
Hiroshima was bombed August 6, 1945. 70,000-100,000 people died instantly. Children, parents, innocent people who just enjoyed the cherry blossoms. By the end of the year, 200,000 people in total died, the rest from injuries and radiation.
Nagasaki was bombed August 9, 1945. 39,000 innocent people died instantly. By the time injuries were accounted for the total number of people who died was 60,000-80,000. Most of them played no role in the war, they just walked to school or work and minded their own business,
President Harry Truman made the damnable decision to drop the atomic bomb not once, but twice.
However, you do have to feel sorry for him because it could not have been an easy decision to make, and it’s probably something that left him with nightmares for the rest of his life.
The survivors of those atomic blasts have spent their lives pushing for nuclear disarmament. Their lives tell the story of the true hell of war.
