There were people I cared for very much who disagreed with the school I was going to. You can read about the adventure in See Sun.
As time went by and classes were soon approaching, I decided to leave because I didn’t want to disappoint them. So, I decided to give up my dream because they are elderly and I didn’t want to disappoint them at this stage in their life–they don’t need that.
The email I received from my dad was not warm and fuzzy but was cold and referred to an arrangement that was made a couple decades ago.
I wanted to be completely honest with a couple other members of my family who were not pleased for me to go. One of them thanked me for my honesty but the overall email was not pleasant. The email the other person sent was overwhelming and demanding.
Here I was, admitting my mistakes, wanting a more transparent relationship, and they were coming at my like snakes at my heel.
I thought about what both parties had said or not said. Then, I told myself that I am almost 50 and I am tired of other people dictating my life.
I decided to not let the sun set on my dreams and I wrote back to California State University, Northridge and told them circumstances had changed, and I did not want to withdraw.
Ironically, my parents always told us people can take away everything you have, but they can never take away your education. That’s what I almost did, I almost let someone take away my education.
Never let the sun set on your dreams regardless of what anyone says, no matter their station in your life.

Watching the sunrise.
