Do you ever wonder if non-humans believe in God? Well, the scientific community has questioned this; many say the things they do may look religious but are actually just ritualistic.

These elephants are visiting the bones of a fallen matriarch, just as we would visit the grave of a loved one. This might be ritualistic in elephants, but we do it too, and it’s a great part of faith. My beloved cat Sherlock spends more time at my kneeler than I do and sleeps next to it, even though it’s a physically uncomfortable spot. I sometimes wonder if she is taking refuge or just using it as one more thing to play with in the apartment. I think it’s a little bit of both.

However, another one of her favorite places to sleep is curled up around a glass statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jesus’ mother.

Again, not the most comfortable of places, but still one of her favorites.

There is another quite remarkable thing, I watch Mass on my computer from time to time and she joins me, for the entire Mass.

Perhaps she is a better Catholic than me.

Well, perhaps not on the pope level yet.

I believe that non-humans have souls and believe in God and have a closer, more special relationship than we do with God. Have you ever felt like your life would be completely empty without your pet or a pet? Perhaps that pet is more than a pet, maybe they are an angel on four legs.

Non-humans are innocent, they stick to what they were meant to be. We don’t. We were called to be good stewards of the Earth and we aren’t. From styrofoam cups to overuse on vehicles to just throwing trash on the street. We were told not to murder, yet look at how many wars and murders are committed daily.

Whatever we do, we must always maintain a smile and tolerance for everyone, and, as George Michael (R.I.P.) sang the reason is “‘Cause you gotta have faith, faith, faith.”
